This new age Mahabharat is indeed another masterpiece in making ... A 'Real' Game of Thrones indeed
neelabhindian2 November 2013
Everyone including myself wondered whether this new Mahabharat by Swastik Production will ever live up to the masterpiece created by BR Chopra more than 2 decades back. Although the promos were looking very engrossing but yet this element of doubt was always there.
The few episodes in the beginning may have appeared to be like a fast- forward of the story of mahabharat revolving around king shantanu. However as the they pass away things begin to get settled down and the story begins to pick up the right grip/pace.
Now in this Mahabharat the characters have been treated to quite an extent objectively and have been allowed sufficient space to grow. The negative characters like Dhritrashtra and Shakuni are shown as to how circumstances made them the way they were. Moreover the Sets can rival that of Hollywood production while the background score of Ajay-Atul is enigmatic and the hallmark of this series. I personally like Rajyabhisekh Mantra , Karna's Theme , Parshuram's Theme ,Bheshma's Theme and above all Krishna's amazing flute music.
Coming to performance. As yet of now everyone is acting superbly. However the actor playing Bheeshm and Lord Krishna are outstanding . Alongwith that the teachings of Lord Krishna in between the episodes are truly full of wisdom and knowledge for the current generation of young Indians who are torn between the worlds of modernity and traditions.
On one thing, I would like to really applaud this Mahabharata team is that they even after 2 decades of gap (since the 1st mahabharat was telecasted) haven't diluted the aspect of culture, ethics and practices of Indian tradition which shall have some positive influence on our present day youngsters.
To sum it up , this new Mahabharat is the best thing running on Indian television and to those for whom it appears as soap opera should really get a medical check-up of their ability to analyze things properly . With great war scenes and maintaining the same momentum I am sure it shall too be the most iconic thing ever to be launched in the history of Indian Television . 10/10 for this great work .

The casting is PERFECT!!! I never imagined that I would accept any other actor in those roles after watching B R Chopra's Mahabharat. But I was wrong. In this Mahabharat as well, the Casting is Superb. Each and every Actor slips into his / her character and looks perfect.. Especially, the actors playing Krishna, Bheeshma,Dronacharya, Dhrutrashtra, Karna, Arjuna. Bheema, Duryodhan looks perfect and enacted their part with aplomb and gusto!!!

A Modern Day Masterpiece !!! MUST WATCH !!!!
pjshahu7 December 2013
HATS OFF to the makers of this version of Mahabharat !!
I am a BIG fan of B R Chopra's Mahabharat, have seen it 4 times and hence I had never imagined that anyone can match to the level of B. R. Chopra's Mahabharat as that version of great story of Mahabharat was awesome. Each and every character of that Mahabharat is etched in people's mind till date and it is hard to imagine that anyone else can create the same magic on screen with Mahabharat. This fact was reinforced after watching the disastrous and pathetic 'Kahani hamare Mahabharat ki' by Ekta Kapoor which was unceremoniously and rightly so was taken off air midway. But After watching this version of Mahabharat, I am immensely impressed and I thanks the makers from bottom of my heart for bringing this epic story on screen again by doing much more detailed analysis and showing it with the grandeur and magnificence which it demands!!!
The casting is PERFECT!!! I never imagined that I would accept any other actor in those roles after watching B R Chopra's Mahabharat. But I was wrong. In this Mahabharat as well, the Casting is Superb. Each and every Actor slips into his / her character and looks perfect.. An Overall impressive treatment is given to each and every department of show.. Story, Screenplay and Dialogues does complete justice to the Epic.. The screenplay of this version of Mahabharat is better at many parts as compared to B R Chopra's Mahabharat.. Noted Mythologist Devdutt Patnaik is the Special Adviser for story and screenplay and he has done excellent job. This version gives answers to many questions which left unanswered in old Mahabharta and narrates the story in an altogether new way which really good , entertaining, educative and exciting.
The sets are magnificent and brilliantly designed (Omang Kumar of Devdas & Black fame). It gives the feeling of the great kingdoms of ancient India.
Very detailed attention is given to the costumes, makeup and characterization of each and every character. thanks to the guidance of Oscar winning costume designer Bhanu Athaiya
The production value, Visual effect, Action Sequences are superb, authentic and engaging.. The Dialogues are meaningful and are at par with the level set by Dr. Rahi Masum Raza for Chopra's Mahabharat. The intuitive use of Krishna in every episode is magical and the speech he gives is very entertaining and highly educative.
Thanks a lot to Team Mahabharat for treating this epic story honestly and with good intentions and Kudos to the entire team and I sincerely hope that the same honest treatment would continue till end of this epic story..

Threat to the originality of the GREAT EPIC
stutitripathi-19941 April 2014
It is extremely disappointing to see the soul of the epic being teased by the trp freak team of the writers who not only have manipulated the originality of this epic but also spoiled it with typical saas- bahu melodrama. I really cant see this much extent of damage to the truth. :( Extending every episode with the much useless emotional dramatic scenes, adding false and imaginary melodrama scenes that never happened just serve as a source of worry for the young generation that are constantly misguided about this great epic.!! I hold a strong resentment for the whole script as well as maker team. :@ I don't mind dragging them in the legal proceedings, if needed, for the sake of preserving some part of 'truth' and 'dharma'.(that this serial was expected to preserve -_- )

Indian Epic saga with brilliant performance
vikfrank24 March 2014
I am saying that this is the best an Indian television can do, but the level of story telling and screen experience is really good.
All the actors really living the characters and it feels good to see our history the greatest epic saga on this grandeur level.
There are some loop holes in some emotional places but that can be subsided.
Karna was actually very cunning character but serial portrayed him very nearer to pandava's character.
More over this TV serial has created mile stone for all the TV shows in India.

Mahabharat or Masalabharat
moonbeam1656 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
When I first heard that a big budget all-new Mahabharat was going to be played on Star plus, I was excited. I was excited because I always wished our richest and greatest Epic be made with special visual effects and a much more dynamic star cast that it well deserves. Well, to start off with I was very impressed with the setting, the cast, visual effects, background score and Krishna's narration. However, as the drama progressed, I saw the detonation of the script and characters. It sort of started to degrade to the soap standards with young pretty girls playing old women, the suspenses, too many dialogues, etc. etc. Here are a few more examples for my disappointment: (1) I think the girl who played Kunthi's role was such a turn off. One could never relate to her as a mother of such mighty warrior sons. (2) The characters lack depth. For example, Duryodhan is shown as such a shallow character; he's plain bad and silly which I guess was not the case. Duryondhan too was a mighty warrior and did have some spiritual qualities. Similarly, Karna's role too lacks depth; he seems to be so inconsistent with his stand. Sometimes, he is super kind and sometimes, just blindly supporting his friend or using profane language against Pandavas. (3) Oh, the main guys, the Pandavas!… they act and behave like college dropouts. (4) Krishna was good to start of with, but somehow his character began to ramble a lot. He can connect anything to Dharma for his own convenience. Also, its funny how they show he can freeze time and space to explain his point on the war field. (5) I was disappointed with Abhimanyu's war scene too. They could have worked more on the Chakravyuh formation and the strategy to break it. In stead, they just wasted the scene with dialogue exchanges and the poor kid simply dies talking Based on the above few things I mentioned and more, I just feel it's just it's an okay entertainer. I wished the team had invested more time in researching the mythology and presenting it in a more philosophical and profound manner. I don't think i would make my children watch this when they grow up as it would simply confuse them with the essence of our epic. I would rather read them the Mahabharat series from Amar Chitra Katha. Hence, I just give a 5!

No different than a typical Indian soap opera. Disappointing!
Greg-House15 October 2013
With all the hype surrounding its promos, and star cast and behind the scenes team that includes Sanjay Leela Bhansali as the set designer, Bhanu Athaiya supervised costumes and with Devdutt Pattanaik on the creative team notwithstanding, it panned out on the expected lines – a typical Indian soap opera that plays in the afternoon with all the ladies of the household huddled around the lone TV set with wet handkerchiefs.
It was expected to be better, a cut above the legendary B R Chopra's Mahabharat of the late 80s. It ends up looking just like a rerun of the erstwhile series, only this time with more lavish sets, loud make up, premier designer costumes, obscene displays of jewellery laden characters that disappoint us with their acting (or should we say overacting?!), endless sobbing, promotion of patriarchal nonsense and shoddy cover-ups of carnal facts that they still don't deem 'safe' for viewing by the Indian audience!
B R Chopra's Mahabharat actually fared better in that respect despite its simpler set and cheaper props, because it had an amazing scriptwriter in Rahi Masoom Reza; yes, a Muslim!
It seems to have become a habit with the producers to forcibly push melodrama into every scene and create a needless suspense every 5 minutes into the show. Add to that the gawky and retarded dialogues, and clumsy looking modifications of the original text, especially the ones that relate to those facts that parents are still shy from discussing with their teenaged children. Tada! We have a complete menagerie!!
The much visible discrepancies, such as fair complexioned royal members being served by darker complexioned ones as their sevaks, and the most glaring one – a fair complexioned Shri Krishna despite his mythical portrayal should definitely sting the anti-discrimination brigade. With the portrayal of women as denigrated beings, who are often abused and vilified for not bearing sons as the successors of kingdoms, one wonders why women empowerment has never been discussed in this context.
The story initially moves at a very rapid pace, jumping by several years around the birth of Shantanu's sons and grandsons before abruptly settling down to a snail's pace as the 'main' characters gradually fill up the big picture.
The character of Shakuni, played by Praneet Bhatt does enthral with his acting and mannerisms, and his performance is laudable.
The narrator this time happens to be Shri Krishna, who happens to be the only saving grace for the show, because it is him who intricately connects the story with his teachings of the Dharm and Karm, and with his thoughtful choice of words, gives the intellectual ones something thoughtful to chew upon.
All in all, it's a flop show with its dumbness providing the odd comic moment. It seems that we still have a long way to go before we begin producing shows that are intelligently designed, sans the loud melodramatic music that creeps into every scene.

Threat To Originality
srjjain199625 December 2013
This Mahabharat is completely Disgrace to our Society, Do Not Watch This As It Has Made The Epic A TV - SOAP Of Ekta Kapoor.
Though The quotes spoken by various character in this Mahabharata are just mind blowing.specially the one spoken by lord Krishna. 'He is a fool that practices truth without knowing the difference between truth and falsehood. '
The Serial Itself is not good, it has wrong storyline and misguide the viewer, please do not watch it rather watch the old mahabharata, it is real gem. And There is a facebook Page, 'The Real Mahabharat of Sage Vyasa', Rather Read It, It will tell all the mistake in this serial, you have to see its old post and now the page is retelling the original Mahabharat for verified sources and it is wonderful, the lessons are great.
https://www.facebook.com/MahabharatKiGalatiyan/
I Highly recommend everyone to STAY AWAY FROM WATCHING this Disgraceful show.
Though The Acting is good, and actors are not to be blame, Story Writer, Producer and Director are the one to be blamed.
I reviewed this 2 Years ago with 10 Stars Later I Realised How Bad This Serial is. So I Now Edited It.

two words-'very disappointing'.
britelux8 November 2013
Very disappointing..,too many anomalies when compared with the original by Krishna Dwaipayana Vyasa.. Birth of Arjuna(he is born after one year penance by Pandu, unlike the other 4 Pandavs) in the original is a fantastic affair with all the Devas Gandharvas Apsaras etc coming to the forest, showering flowers etc, here it is quite washed down; after Pandu's death Kunti and the Pandavas are brought to Hastinapura by ascetics, ritwiks etc who vanish before the eyes of the citizens producing a lot of awe, here Vidura is shown as bringing them?!and i am sure other people might surely have quite a lot more to add to this list. Overall, they seem to have taken a bit too much freedom with the characters and has made this look like a soap-serial.., the pace is also slow..

high on visual effects, low on performancesMahabharat serial on star plus
tiwarinatwar16 July 2014
This is the difference ,when a TV series director takes up the task to create something grand. Although the visual effects are amazing, but the performances are average, none of the characters are able to make much impact, as compared to the 1988 series by BR Chopra. The changes to the script are too much to handle, almost to the point of diluting the characters as we know them from the original Epic. Duryodhan's characters is over the top and too loud, every characters believes in spelling out everything rather than leaving it for the viewers to understand the situation.(sort of like CID, if you are an Indian, you know what i mean!) it is very difficult to concentrate on epic like this when the story drags on like a daily soap, things get too slow , story takes unprecedented turns, overall its drag. i would have rated it even less ,but 5 is for the grandeur and visual effects. but if you really want to love the epic, watch the series by BR Chopra. That is amazing.

Awesome and best direction
rickyoneaaidu17 July 2014
No one can match the characters and direction for this. Immensely pleased and love to follow it.
Love the character of Shakuni who has played the best part in the series. Krishna has the grace which I never saw in any form. All characters have their own music theme which incorporates their thinking and thoughts.
Awesome direction and fast enough to keep you interested all the time. overall acting has been superb.Special credit for Bhisma role who has justified his part superbly. Star plus has surely came up with something special. Wish we could get it on Netflix.Love it and recommend it.

Star Plus'Mahabharat'(2013) is a great show...
thinkapala18 February 2016
Star Plus'Mahabharat'(2013)Is a great.. because so many points made it good and more acceptable.
I know our the-original-text-of-Mahabharatha. It is full of a huge history of our Indian HINDU religion and a GLORIOUS knowledge,AND IT is unchangeable and never old and always THE GREAT EPIC.
On the other side, it came out through a TV show in 1988 by B.R CHOPRA. It is a good epic show of MAHABHARATHA.the time was so different and the people's mentality were different, the main point of that great success, it was only 1st time TV show of MAHABHARATHA the limited TV channels were available on that time.
I saw so many people have commented on their reviews that the 2013 Star plus MAHABHARATHA is not good. I just oppose that : the new MAHABHARATHA is extremely appropriate and acceptable.because the Time has been changed as it is 21st CENTURY, the science and life is too fast, the people is too busy in their work and they have no time, 1000 TV shows are available , all people are modern and so many youth are not believed in supper natural things. as a consequence, they are detached from our main culture and religious.
As a Result the NEW MAHABHARATHA 2013, is so summarized and meaning full . though some text have been missed and some text is manipulating but the basic thing is same as the-original-text-of-Mahabharatha. the Other side it is true the TV shows are not written by VEDAVYASA the director want to represent the main and actual Indian History. A great religious Knowledge he want to represent through the science and good artist. technology..he did a great job ...

Just A Typical Soap & Serial Business
samson0208218 April 2014
I've watched BR Chopra's Mahabharat 14 times. With the use of modern technologies, i was hoping for a better production this time. Despite all the advances over the old serial in terms of every aspect, the new series have failed to express the epic's originality.
They always try to create suspense every 5 mins just as a typical Indian Soap Drama does. Hastinapur is being shown as a place which is situated at mounted plateau surrounded by water. Despite the availability of modern day technologies/animation skills, they have failed to show their fellow viewers a Hastinapur that have been once the capital of the Kauravs. Many a times, they create irrelevant scenes.
About some of the characters:
1. Kunti: Despite being an old lady, her skins look very toned as she does in her younger days, her nails are as firmly polished as a model walking on a ramp. Yes, one thing observed in her is her Zebra Crossing like Hair showing that she is old enough.
2. Shikhandi: Shikhandi is played by a lady, despite Shikhandi was a male (what we now called as gay/homo).
3. Krishna: His skin colour is pretty fair in this new creation of the Mahabharata.
4. Shakuni: A complete copy of the BR Chopra's Shakuni. (one simple point to decide is that the dialogue 'MERE BATCHE' is also used/spoken in the same way)
This are just few points I've listed out.
My rating (out of 10)
1. Graphics - 8 (but irrelevant pictures/scenes are created 7 out of every 10) 2. Dialogue - 3 3. Characters - 5 4. Originality of the epic - 5 5. Story Telling - 4
My requests to my fellow viewers is that, if you are watching this production, please do watch the BR Chopra's one and I'm sure that you will surely feel the difference.

taken only for getting trp rating
kb_vells24 May 2014
This is revised rating after watching Virat war. original review till Drupadi sari removal scene: I watched old Mahabharat when I was very young. I loved it as I couldn't understand few details. but when I watched it again, most of the episodes unwatchable as it is slow and without details. to give example, try to watch Druapadi marriage scene. She will accept to marry 5 husband without any hesitation. But new Mahabharat taken for modern age, explaining all intricate details. When I watched the Drupadi sari removal scene, The director try to give as much explanation as possible before coming to the state. I had burning question why no one could do anything about that. May be the director has taken some liberty here and there but it is worth. Also Krisha's portions are amazing. Hats of to you guys, unforgettable drama experience
new rating after Virat war: I mentioned earlier, The director has taken some liberty on the serial to change some part. problem 1: The complete exile scenes are taken just in 4 to 5 episodes but in fact the exile is around 1/5 of the entire mahabharat and the story modified in most part of it problem 2: sakuni or duriyodhan no where near the Virat palace when Keechagan was killed Bhim. problem 3: Virat war is the decisive war for entire Mahabharat but the way the war was shown is complete joke. problem 4: From start, Karna was portrayed as good guy and equals to Arjun but the fact is not even one war he is victorious against Arjun in entire Mahabharat story.
It looks like the director and the screenplay twisted for getting trp rating. Just for all mistakes mentioned, reducing the rating from 9 to 5

CGI and Graphics were world-class. Script and dialogues were well written and well delivered. The music and Soundtrack was so good! - It should get an Oscar. Emotional and War scenes were well portrayed. Above all.the director and direction was just superb! It touched the heart, made us laugh sometimes and cry sometimes. Amazing Experience

Misinforming and highly disappointing
adhi-gsits28 December 2013
I was expecting a better effort from the new Mahabharata team given the luxury of special effects and logistics they have and was not available to BR Chopra & team.
Disappointingly, The current version is far inferior in terms of characters, their depth and more importantly the actual story-telling.
Half of the sequences are director's own imagination and have no trace in any of the versions of Mahabharat.
The director has tried to put a lot of masala and twists and turns by sequencing the events in manner suiting to his needs of making 'Masala- loaded', melodramatic, 'Daily-soapic' Mahabharat. I have tried to recollect some of the follies and they are as follows
1. Subhadra never met Arjuna before Arjun actually went to Dwarika disguised as a sage. She never really visited Hastinapur altogether
2. Never did Drona intervened in the appointment of Yuvraj. He asked for the Guru-dakshina immediately after the training got over for Kuru princes and not at the last moment when Dhritrashtra was about to announce the next yuvraj, as shown in the current show.
3. All the sequences between Kunti and Karna are very filmy and never really happened. They were put in place so as to show the pain Kunti was going through
4. Never did Arjun played Sitar/Veena and never did he attacked Karna for which he had to wash Karna's feet, as shown in the show. Had it happened, and a choice given, Arjun would have chosen to die given the animosity between Karna and Arjun.
5. Never did Duryodhana fought 4 pandavas in the exhibition, He only fought Bheema in the mace battle and it was stopped by Drona as a no result. Whereas in the show it has been shown that he actually defeated 4 Pandavas except Arjun. This was not possible and was not allowed as per the laws of battle of that time, the laws where that a Mace could only fight with another mace warrior and not like warrior fighting Swordsman or a Spearman or a warrior with a bow and arrow. He could have fought a warrior with a Mace only and that is Bheema.
6. Never did Drupad arranged a Chakravyuh formation and never had body doubles. This was really more of an inspiration from Hollywood. Chakrvyuh formation was never known to Drupad or his army for that matter. Had it been so, He could have come to Pandava's rescue later at the time of Kurukshetra war and poor Abhimanyu could have been saved.
7. The episodes showing Kalyavan attacking Arjun and Subhadra are pure imagination. Though Sri Krishna actually ensured Kalyavan was killed in the manner as shown in the show, but Kalyavan never attacked Subhadra or for that matter Arjun. Like I've said already, Arjun Subhadra never met before Arjun visited Dwarika, hence Kalyavan attacking them is out of question here.
These were the few follies that I noticed. there were few more but could not recall them.
IMO, I would rate this version of Mahabharat 4 out 10 for the storytelling, acting, depth of characters and screenplay. The only saving grace are the special effects and the sets.
Would advice fellow viewers, if they don't want to be misinformed about the great epic, they should give this one a miss.

Are they trying to insult the epic?
shrivastavshubhanshu18 June 2018
The Director with his limited knowledge has converted an epic with the teachings of life into a typical saas-bahu serial. The over dramatic responses, the close ups on actor's faces after each sentences, the nauseating music which has no logic to be put in at that event, the irritating slow motion, the facial expressions like any typical saas-bahu serial and above all - THE WRONG STORY! For instance, Shikhandi was not a woman, he was a eunuch, a transgender. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of the mistakes in the story of the epic! The special effects that has no use at some points whatsoever and the women who at all times are wearing jewellery, has perfect makeup in those times and acting and progressing of the storyline, as said earlier, like a typical saas-bahu serial borderlines the experience on absolute disgust for the director and the actors. Its like no one told them that they are now not directing or acting in a saas-bahu soap but in MAHABHARATA!
I am even amazed at the people who are rating it as 10/10. I wonder have they lost their minds or are simply gullible and stupid enough to like anything with special effects, mindless acting, mind numbingly stupid scenarios like complete make-up and same clothes & jewellery for months (as per the storyline) and over-dramatic acting that comes their way. Well both the symptoms of idiots who are fans of indian soap operas - the typical saas bahu serials and have never seen anything like game of thrones or call game of thrones idiotic compared to indian daily soaps (trust me, even these kind of people exist!).
Rather watch BR Chopra's Mahabharata. It was a gem compared to this non-sense.

Few really good actors
sangos-6221519 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers

Mahabharat Serial On Star Plus Images

The story script takes a lot of creative license based on the original canon ex. A shot-down Karna still alive to meet his real family. Each viewer would have an opinion whether these deviations are good or bad. As long as the original story is not overturned such plot points to spice up the screenplay are welcome. Some of the actors are outstanding - Krishna, Karna, Kunti, Draupadi, Shakuni, Bhishma etc Some are inconsistent like Duryodhan, Ashwathama etc. Its a mixed bag overall for acting. Also while some sets look amazing others look like amateur job ex. the Kurukshetra battle camp. The action scenes are inconsistent as well ex. Dushashan flying on harness attached in battle. What amazes is the actual easier stuff like green screen CGI and camera is plain shoddy. The CGI looks like its been done by high school art project students. And the director probably shot most of it with his mobile phone. At least the file could have been run through any commercially available software filters to get a more cinematographic look. And the really bad copy of the movie 'Troy' battle vocals audio would have made Ved Vyas doubt his own originality in heaven. What a waste!

Best one, but .
dyahachie221118 October 2014
anyone who read the Mahabharat book perhaps will feel disappointed with the story, indeed. but one who never read the book before, esp when you lived abroad far from India like me, will love the movie and perhaps wants to read the book after they watch this movie.
we have our own version of Mahabharat which been rewritten and recreated by our ancestors thousands years BCE. as I and several of our people read both Indian/original version and Javanese/Indonesian version of Mahabharat, so we don't mind and regret any improved or updated version of Mahabharat, as long as we can catch the moral message lies within the movie (and the book) itself.
what I love from this movie is their objectives to spread moral values, such as respect the elders, obey your parents, respect for women, teenage bravery to protect their parents, equal rights for low-class people, etc. which are damaged seriously within young and adult generation all over the world these days.
some key actors of Mahabharat enjoyed high appreciation in our country during their tour recently, and i think they worth it, regardless disappointed voices on their acting performance.
I myself would like to praise this movie (BR Chopra's Mahabharat was also aired by our television long ago)as the best version of Mahabharat. a little bit of my disappointment arise due to short episodes on Virataparwan (which should told us more about Pandava's suffering and how they survived), and small appearance of Gathotkacha, regarding this character is adored by kids and adults in our country.

Karna is great warrior. this episodes not mention that.
pradeepf-704771 October 2015
If you believe that Krishna is a god then you have to accept that Karna was the best warrior.
Once God Krishna said that he was a best and invisible he could be killed because of he supporting the wrong people other wise 100's of Arjun not able to kill or defeat him.
It said that before the Mahabharata war god Krishna asked Hanuman to seat on the chariot of Arjun to protect from the mighty weapon of Drona and Karna.
On the 17th Day of war a evenly matched war took place between the Karna and Arjun. Arjuna arrow marked Karna chariot to move 10 step length. On the other hand Karna arrow pushed Arjuna chariot only 1 step length. But God Krishna cheer or clapped for the effort of Karna. then Arjuna said God which side you was. I am pushing the Karna's chariot more distance then his effort' God Krishna said, ' Arjun you are missing some thing his not actually pushing you, it me. Without my desire no body can not push me even in the presence of Hanuman and me, he is able to achieve that no warrior achieved or not be able to achieve in the future now tell me who is more powerful.'
If you want compare then you I have rough idea about. In skill and concentration both are equal. Karna was better in knowledge of devestating weapon 2nd best after the God Krisna. Karna hold upper hand in making strategy or plan thats why Arjuna never made chief commander of his army. It said that Karna was more physically stronger then Arjuna almost equivalent to Bheem.

An insult and shame to the most important and revered epic of India
My humble advice to the makers of this TV serial:
Please confine yourself to saas bahu type serials. Please don't insult our religious traditions by making crap out of them.
For prospective viewers:
Please watch Mahabharata by BR chopra of 1988, if u have to watch one. Don't waste time in this serial. This TV serial is full of overacting, over drama, unprofessional actors, and inexperienced director. The character who plays Krishna makes one vomit in disgust. The rating of above 8 is a wonder and probably, is a fraud one. May be all of those of who rated this high haven't watched Mahabharata of BR chopra.

Exciting but not complete
panigrahy-vivek18 April 2014
The cast, dialogues and special effects are good parts. The best i like is the Krishna and Shakuni character and their face-offs. It's little fictitious but i liked it. In the cheerharan episode, when Dushashan was trying disrobe Draupadi backfired and everyone at the court got disrobed themselves. Notions like this make this show unique and exciting.
Though, there are certain anomalies like Subhadra meeting Arjun in hastinapur, Arjun washing Karna's feet, Drupad creating a chakravyuh. These events never happened in the epic. The Vana Parva was wrapped too fast. I was expecting more dialogue between Yudhisthir-Yaksha sambad. Arjun in the heaven thing was also omitted in the show.
What I am really waiting is the full length 18-day war. I hope the war and the Bhagwat Geeta explanatory would be in detail and true to the content.
To sum up, this is average time pass show.

If you're a fan of Mahabharata novel then please don't watch it
hemu-732779 April 2017
This is why Indian filmmaker cant make TV shows like game of thrones or breaking bad. This show was rarely based on the story of Mahabharata. Visual effects literally sucks. As far as writing is concerned ,writing per episode may be 2 page story and 20 pages of time waste. It looks like writers don't even make effort to write story. I read a review in which the reviewer mentions the word 'masalabharatha', may be it should have been the right title for the series. This is the worst TV show.this may offensive for some people but it is the worst. If you still want to watch Mahabharata i recommend you watching 1988 series ,which is bit better than this series. P.s.you better watch tvf pitchers (best Indian show ever)

Best Mahabharat ever
ishvadhel13 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
All the characters are just perfect. And I did not see any melodrama in it.It was just that to give it more feel, background music was added. I got so involved in it ! I have all the episodes in my laptop and I love to watch it again and again. I have seen some episodes of old Mahabharat online.but i did not like them at all ! I did not get that feel.I wasn't satisfied with even a single character. But this 2013 show ? It cannot get better.just perfect ! It seemed very real.epic show on television. The most perfect Mahabharat with the perfect characters and perfect music.10 on 10 for it. I could connect with all the characters. And specially Lord Krishna's character was so very well played. The only minor flaw in it was the makeup was a little more. But the acting of every single character was so real. Hats off to this show.
